Cook 30 minutes
A decadent fall-inspired magic bar with caramel, apple, oatmeal, pretzels, and chocolate layers topped with flake salt.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups quick cooking oats
  • ½ cup salted butter, melted If unsalted, add 1/8 tsp salt to mix
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk 14 ounce
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ cups coconut flakes sweetened or unsweetened
  • 1 green apple, peeled and sliced into cubes
  • 1 cup pretzel sticks
  • 8 sliced caramels, halved
  • Flake salt

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F and line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl combine oats, melted butter, and vanilla (add 1/8 tsp salt only if using unsalted butter). Press the mix into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Gently pour 1/2 the condensed milk over the oats in an even layer. Sprinkle the coconut flakes over the condensed milk, then sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips. Layer broken pretzels and caramel pieces.
  4. Peel your apple and cut into 1" cubes. Place the apple pieces in a paper towel and press dry. This is important! If the apples have too much moisture it will make the bars soggy. Add the layer of apples and gently press down with your hands to stick everything together.
  5. Top with remaining 1/2 can of condensed milk and sprinkle with a few more chocolate chips.
  6. Bake the bars for 30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown on the edges. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired. Let cool before slicing. Refrigerate.

Notes

Magic bars are very decadent so semi-sweet chips are recommended instead of milk chocolate. The sweetened condensed milk will add all the sweetness you need. It is important to dry the apple pieces thoroughly with a paper towel to prevent the bars from becoming soggy.
