Directions
Add the orange, fuchsia, and green RIT dyes to separate containers or foil pans filled with water, following the dye package directions. I added 1/2 a bottle (4oz) to the half sheet foil pan to get my vibrant carrots.
Fold each napkin into a triangle and soak it in warm water first. This helps the fabric absorb the dye more evenly.
Tie a rubber band around the top of the napkin where the ruffles are. This section will become the carrot or radish stems.
Dip the rubber-banded top into the orange or fushia dye. Using gloves or a ziplock bag over your hand, gently press the liquid out so you can dip the other side without it running down into the green.
Dip the top portion into green dye and gently press out the liquid. The longer you hold the material in the liquid the darker the shade. I dipped the top of my stems for 3 minutes so the ends were darker. * Let the napkins sit in the dye until you reach your desired color.
Remove the rubber bands, rinse the napkins in cold water until the water runs mostly clear. You may use a drop of detergent as well, but don’t overdo it. Let them dry completely. Steam or iron. Add utensils and tie with yarn or twine.
