How to Make Colored Mason Jars

by Jessie Daye

Colored Mason Jars
What you need
- Mason jars
- Mod Podge
- Food coloring or food coloring gels
- Stick for mixing
- Paper plate
- Optional: gold puffy paint, stick-on gems
Directions
- Pour Mod Podge into mason jar (about 1.5 inches for large jars)
- Add a couple drops of food coloring or gel
- Mix thoroughly with a stick until well incorporated
- Tilt and roll the jar in your hands to coat the entire inside - do not use a brush or stick to spread as it will leave marks
- Place jar on paper plate and let excess glue drip out for about an hour
- Flip jar over and allow to air dry for 24-48 hours depending on warmth of your house
- Do not use oven to speed drying as it creates bubbles
- Once dry, the glue turns clear and the food coloring remains vibrant
- Optional: Apply gold puffy paint and stick-on gems once fully dry

- Important: These jars are for decoration only - not food safe. Use as pencil holders or for votives

- Tip: If making multiple jars, mix a large batch of Mod Podge and food coloring in a bowl to pour into each jar

- If unsatisfied with results, you can peel off the glue and reuse the jar

Can you put water on these and “paint” on the outside instead of the inside?
Jessie Daye
You can actually. A little more messy when you coat the outside, but you can absolutely reverse the process!
