DIY Beauty and The Beast Chip Costume
What you need
- 16"-20" plastic flower pot & base
- (2) 2" 90 degree PVC pipes
- Super glue
- Hot glue
- Epoxy 6000 glue
- Acrylic paint
- White spray paint
- Gold spray paint or Rub and Buff Gold Paint
- Paint brush
- Sandpaper (gritty)
- Saw or X-Acto Knife
- Dremel (optional)
- Ribbon
- Drill
Directions
- Flip flower pot upside down and cut out the center of the pot and base using a saw, X-Acto knife, or Dremel to create leg openings.
- Use gritty sandpaper to smooth all edges and remove rough plastic pieces that could scratch skin. Sand inside and outside thoroughly.
- Flip pot base upside down and use hot glue to attach it to the pot, creating a teacup shape. Let dry completely.
- Apply Epoxy 6000 glue around the entire rim where the base and pot meet, both on outside and inside, for extra strength. Let cure.
- Attach two 2" 90 degree PVC pipes together using super glue. Let dry.
- Spray paint the entire costume white. Paint the top rim and base rim gold.
- Paint the PVC pipe handle gold using spray paint or Rub and Buff Gold.
- Use X-Acto knife to carefully cut a chip shape out of the top rim of the teacup.
- Paint the chip opening with gold paint to enhance it and make edges jagged for effect.

- Attach the gold handle to the teacup body using hot glue.

- Paint the base of the teacup with pink, purple, and blue acrylic paint.

- Add additional gold paint accents to base for decorative effect.

- Drill 8 holes total: two on each back corner and two on each front side of the teacup.

- Thread ribbon through drilled holes, crossing straps in an X pattern on the back like suspenders. Do NOT use hot glue for straps as they will peel off.

- The finished pot weighs approximately 2 lbs, making it lightweight and wearable for a child.

Hi! I need to make this Chip costume, as my daughter is in an upcoming Beauty and the Beast play. I found a 20” pot @ Lowe’s but I think the base is more narrow than yours pictured. She is 8.5 years old, and I want to be sure it fits around her legs. Can you tell me where you got you’re from please? Thank you so much!
