DIY Halloween Severed Heads
What you need
- Styrofoam Head
- Cheesecloth
- Fabric Stiffener
- Mod Podge Hard Coat
- Foam Brush
- Brown, Black, Red soft pastel sticks
- Twine
- Instant coffee
- Gloves (optional)
Directions
- Mix instant coffee with hot water in a medium bowl. Unfold cheesecloth, add to coffee with gloves, and let sit for 8 minutes. Remove and wring out excess coffee, then spread to dry.
- Apply makeup to styrofoam head using brown, black, and red pastel sticks, adding coloring for natural shading and creepy effects.
- Once cheesecloth is dry, place in bowl and add fabric stiffener. Work stiffener throughout with gloves until cheesecloth holds a ball shape.
- Place head on cookie sheet and drape dried cheesecloth evenly over it, pooling at bottom on all sides.
- Using foam brush and mod podge, adhere cheesecloth to top of head. Squish cloth into features and work down toward neck. Trim small pieces from excess cloth to add wrinkles.
- Tie twine around neck to hold cheesecloth in place. Continue applying mod podge under chin and down neck.
- Arrange excess cheesecloth at bottom as desired. Fabric stiffener will hold it in place when dry.
- Allow to dry completely and remove string. Optional: tie a noose around neck for extra creepiness.
