What you need
- White blankets
- RIT coloring
- Bleach
- Squeeze bottle
- Rubber bands
- Rubber gloves
Directions
- Dye a white muslin swaddle blanket per package instructions and wring dry.
- Starting in one corner, twist the blanket and secure with rubber bands every 2 inches or so. Hold any twists in place with additional rubber bands as needed. Stretch the fabric as you twist to avoid creating a giant knot.
- Fill a squeeze bottle with full strength bleach (no water). Carefully squeeze bleach over the rubber band areas only, working over a large bowl.
- Let the blanket sit in a clean bowl for up to 4 hours to allow the bleach to pull out the color.
- Carefully cut off the rubber bands while wearing gloves. Rinse the blanket until no more color bleeds out before washing and drying. Check dye package for additional washing and care instructions.
