DIY Heating Packs
What you need
- Knee high sock or tube sock
- Long grain white rice (2.5 cups per sock)
- Essential oils (optional)
- Peel N Stick Fabric Fuse permanent adhesive tape
- Hemp rope (optional, approximately 8" per handle)
- Fabric Fusion glue
Directions
- Pour 2.5 cups rice into plastic bag and add 4 drops of essential oil per 2 cups if desired (eucalyptus and lavender recommended).
- Cut off sock heel and fold bottom portion inside out.
- Apply hem tape inside sock around entire diameter. Optional: place hemp rope ends in corners and apply Fabric Fusion glue to secure rope in middle. Press down and let dry 2 hours.
- Flip sock right side up and fill with scented rice.
- Apply hem tape to inside of top of sock, add rope for handle at corners with fabric glue, press closed and let dry 10 hours before using. TIPS: Hand stitching rope is recommended. For refillable packs, use velcro instead of hem tape. To extend heating pack life, place damp paper towel over pack and microwave no longer than 1 minute 30 seconds.
